Harbour under 19s beats Wellington under 19s in the Final.  Final Score 74 - 71

The U19 and U17 North Harbour boys teams swept the National Championships held in Tauranga and Dunedin over Queen's Birthday weekend.
In the U19 final the Harbour Boys defeated Wellington 74-71. Rob Loe scored 17 points, 24 boards and 5 blocks. Also in double figures were Scott Campbell 15, Marko Alexander 13 and Zac Fitzgerald 11. Sam Butler had 8 points and 10 rebounds. Lucas Watt and Luka Kablar also made key contributions in the final. Rob and Zac were named to the tournament team and Rob was named MVP of the tournament.
Congratulations to the boys and to head coach Anthony Corban.

In the U17 final in Dunedin the Harbour boys rallied from 8 down at the start of the last quarter to beat Wellington 81-68.
Brad Anderson, Anthony Jones and Sonny Tuaputa were named to the tournament team with Brad MVP.
Special mention to key team members Lawrence Kahn and Niko Noel who could not travel due to injury.
Congratulations to coaches Norm Fong and Toni Pompallier.
Our girls teams also did well but were derailed by the decision to host major games on a Sunday.
Our U19 girls finished 3rd after demolishing New Plymouth 74-44. They had an agonising loss to Waitakere the previous day. Congratulations to Rebecca Dew and Kate Lacey for making the tournament team. Coach Ang Perrott-Hunt has had another great season.
Our U17 girls lost to eventual winners Otago on Sunday morning without two key players and their head coach. On Monday they won a hard fought game against Hawkes Bay to finish 5th. Congratulations to coaches Lana Kershaw and Chanel Pompallier for their outstanding work this season.

Kaipara beats Mahurangi 78 - 68
31 May 08
Mahurangi turn on an awesome day of basketball followed by a hungi.  Half the town turned up to watch the game and we were lucky to come away with a win.  After a great game Mahurangi treated us like kings and provided a fantastic hungi.  A big thanks to Coach Rahiri Bennett and the good folks of Mahurangi for a fantastic day at your place!!

Taylor and Josh head to Nationals
29 May 08
Taylor Johnston's Harbour under 17s Developement team has qualified for Nationals and they travel to the Edgar Centre in Dunedin today.  Also Josh Taylor's Harbour under 19's A team travel to the Queen Elizabeth Youth Centre in Tauranga as favorites.

Game against Massey Under 17s
24 May 08
We were very lucky to have a chance to play Massey Under 17s in a Nationals Build up game for them.  They were a very fast and well drilled team and while we were able to break their press defence most of the game they proved too much for us in the end.

Game against Harbour Under 17s Developement
17 May 08
We were able to play the under 17s again to try and get them back for the last game they won.  The score at the end of the first quarter was 18 each but as the game went on they were able to go deep into their bench with continued pressure proving too much for us in the end.  Thanks to Harbour under 17s for another great game.

Injury Worry
13 May 08
Dylan Gunner, the teams play maker was injured in the First Fifteen Rugby game on Saturday. Dylan was also injured for some of the pre session games and the team struggled without him. Dylan’s physiotherapist said he may not be able to play this week but we will know closer to Friday.

Gym Partition
The temporary partition went up in the gym yesterday.  We now have only half a gym.  Access to the half court is now through the Pool making it difficult to get into.  If we thought the gym floor was slippery before the renovations there is now a thick layer of dust and dirt on the floor.  Through all the adversity the team continues to train hard to prepare for game 1 against Westlake A this Friday.

American Import
3 May 08
Our American Import Jordan Jackman arrives in the country today to help in the back court with his out standing 1 and 2 guard skills.  He arrives just in time for game 1 this Friday.

New Sponsor
6 Apr. 08
We are grateful to Mike’s Mum and Partner for not only organising sponsors but being the main sponsor of the team. They own and operate the Kaukapakapa Caltex Station on
Kaipara Coast Highway in Kaukapakapa and they have kindly come on board to help us purchase new uniforms and track suits. They have also arranged for Repco and Cocacola to help us out with new Drink Bottles and Basketballs.

All Qualify for Nationals
25 Apr. 08
All of our Boys teams have qualified for the National Representative Basketball Tournaments this year.   The under 19 boys will be attending Nationals in Tauranga and Taylor will be attending the under 17 Nationals in Dunedin on Queens Birthday Weekend.  Unfortunately we will be without our rep players for the Mahurangi Queens Birthday Tournament but this will give good court time and development for the bench players
Gym Renovations
8 Apr. 08
The gym renovations and addition could have been the end of a lot of hard work in building and developing the basketball team. Fortunately the builders have been kind enough to allow us to continue our training while they work on the outside. They have also agreed to put up a temporary partition when they start on the inside of the gym giving us 3 quarters of the court to still practise on.   While this isn’t ideal it is much better than the alterative. The alternative would have meant travelling to Westgate to train or disband the team.

New Uniforms
6 Apr. 08
For the first time in Kaipara College history the Basketball team will not only have a full playing suit for the 2 or 3 sessions ahead but will also have flash new track suits to match.   The uniforms and track suits come via the new sponsor Kaukapakapa Caltex. The uniforms are being purchased through Coast 2 Coast NZ.  www.coast2coastsport.co.nz

New Team Manager
6 Apr. 08
We would like to welcome a new team member in the roll of Team Manager. Russell Taylor (Josh Taylor’s Father) will bring experience, stability and organisational skills to the team.  Russell understands what it takes to be a winning team and aims to raise the profile of the team on our quest for the National Tournament in 2009. Welcome a board Russell.
